  • What is Causing My Belly Fat?

It seems like it doesn't matter how many miles you run or how many diets you try, you just can't get rid of that belly fat. It can really be frustrating and at times seem hopeless. Don't give up! There are other reasons that can cause us to gain weight in our mid section. One major reason has to do with our stress levels.

When we experience stress our adrenal glands catch wind of it and release a steroid hormone called cortisol. Its goal is to try and bring down our stress levels but unfortunately it has other side effects. It will increase our appetite, decrease bone density and muscle mass. Recent researchers at Yale University in the United States discovered thin people with high stress levels have increased adipose tissue in their stomach region.

What can you do to decrease stress and thus decrease belly fat? Sleep is very essential. It's important to get at least 7 hours a day of rest. This time allows your body to repair itself from the day prior. Let's not forget how cranky we all feel if we don't get a good night rest. We are unable to handle stress properly and this can release cortisol more frequently.

It's also important to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier. This will allow time in the morning to eat a healthy meal and engage in a physical activity. This will help you feel ready to take on the day. So put down that remote or tablet late at night and go to bed!

Also a good diet and moderate exercise are so important. Keeping your body healthy will help limit your stress. Going for a run in the morning or lifting some weights can help release some your pent up stress. Try to exercise 30 minutes 5 times a week. Exercise releases endorphins which gives you that "feel good" sensation. It can help combat stress and even depression

Adding herbs and vitamins can help to regulate your cortisol levels. Look under the stress section of this website. There are multiple supplements that can help to decrease stress and essentially belly fat.

Please don't give up on losing your belly fat. Try to decrease the stress in your life. Relax when you need to relax and add some of the suggestions to your daily routine. I'm sure you will see results quicker than you think.
