INGREDIENTS

  crushed tomatoes, canned

METHOD

1. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and crushed red pepper (if using); cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

2. Add tomatoes, stock, herbs and sugar. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

3. Stir in milk and heat through, about 2 minutes.

4. Ladle in serving bowls.
