John Caleta was 38 years old when he enlisted the online personal training services of Jay through Amino Z Online Personal Training.  After training on his own for some time, he found that he was unable to achieve the results that he wanted - to shed the fat, obtain definition in his midsection and build more muscular arms and shoulders.  With very little training experience under his belt, John stated that he did not have the expertise, willpower or time in order to make a drastic change to his physique in the way that he wanted.  Over only 12 weeks, John completely transformed his body in unimaginable ways - and learnt a few lessons along the way!

From the Trainer (Jay Bonaretti):

Initially John contacted me through Amino Z, seeking my personal training services as he was extremely unhappy with his physique.  Whilst he had performed some limited training in the gym before, he was following a more generic plan which didn't result in the changes that he wanted.  These changes were:

  • To lose fat weight
  • To build his shoulders and arms
  • To improve the definition in his midsection

After reviewing his "generic" program...it was blatantly obvious to me that this program would definitely not support him toward his goals.  Don't get me wrong - he was working hard for a number of weeks...but his program was getting him absolutely nowhere.

Upon reviewing his goals, medicals and nutrition, I provided him with plans that would effectively help him toward his goals.  He did have some lower back injuries that needed some special attention in his exercise routine - particularly his resistance training.  Initially when I presented his training and nutritional plans he did seem a bit shocked...simply because my programs were completely different to what he had been following.  No more long workouts - the workouts were cut to a fraction of the time.  John's nutrition was revamped in order to provide the right carbs, proteins and fats into his system at the correct times.  Fortunately John kept an open mind with these new plans and began training immediately.

John's progress amazed me throughout the 12 weeks.  He had an absolute iron mind - always striving to set a new personal best and beat his last attempt...absolutely nothing would get in his way!  He stuck to the programs almost religiously and sure enough, the results followed!

I must say that I really enjoyed training John throughout this 12 week period.  He always remained focussed and positive throughout the challenge, resulting in these remarkable changes that you can see in the photo's.  John even mentioned to me that he is now getting plenty of looks as he walks down the street...from attractive young women!  Unfortunately for them, he's already married!

John explained to me that he is now going to apply the knowledge he obtained over the 12 week period and continue to apply these training techniques to further improve his body.  After he looses a little bit more fat weight, he intends to really focus on bulking up.  I have absolutely no doubt that this man will continue to achieve some massive feats - he is now armed with both the body and the mind to accomplish these goals.

 

John's Story:

My name is John Caleta, I am 39 years old, 188cm of Height and I was 88 Kg -when I started my challenge.

Over the years, I’ve hurt my lower back quite severely on 3 occasions. This almost crippled me and it took years to learn how to manage this problem the right way. I was looking for fresh change in my lifestyle, and some credibility issues had to be addressed.

Goal was to gain back some muscles on to my frame, lose excess weight on belly & keep my lower back intact.  I was very curious to find out, once and for all, how is it really done by “people in the business”? What is it they know better?

Put together the reality of knowing I wasn’t going anywhere on my own-and motivation to reach this new landmark became plain to me.

This is #1 reason that made me “go for it”, among other obvious reasons such as healthier lifestyle, more energy gained, getting noticed, opening of new possibilities etc.

Gym was not completely a new thing to me; I‘ve been training before this challenge, doing it “on my own”.  Problem is, never during that time did I achieve anything significant, in form of nice muscles that actually could be seen under my skin –as the start photos show!  I ate without paying attention to nutrition. My favourites were fresh crusty breads, cheeses, meats, sweets-you name it.

Enter Mr. Jay Bonaretti, past Body Blitz champ of the month and the year 2006 himself, my newfound Instructor & online Personal Trainer. When I read a magazine, I found about his website that offers lots of useful information for people like me, so it all took off from there. He was very professional and able to provide me with 1st class advice and know-how, every day, during last 3 months. This was done despite the fact I live in Mackay, Qld -and he is in Sydney, NSW.

So on February 26th 2007, I started 12 Week challenge to change my body for better & I lost 10kg since!

In the beginning stages, I hated and dreaded Cardio. Nature of my goal-losing weight & keeping as much muscle as possible -demanded yet more Cardio.  During the first 8 weeks, I followed my Diet & Exercise plan with fanatical precision. I found out very quickly that oats are a true wonder food!

After about 8 weeks, Fitness really came on-line and Cardio became easier to do. This is important: I wished I knew before the amounts eaten were of utmost importance. No snacking here and there, as every calorie will add up! Before, I’d eat small snacks here and there-I had my little habitual routines.  The hard part was to ignore tempting smells out of kitchen or BBQ when they all sat down to eat -and I had to revert to my Muesli. I had to use will power to overcome this problem, by reminding myself what got me out of shape in the first place and that every calorie counts!

I have learnt that it is the right combination of diet, exercise, consistency and mental attitude that yields the best results. I figured “I’ll attack this problem with everything I’ve got at my disposal”.

My daily diet/habits were the #1 thing we had to correct.

 #2 thing were the workouts-I always did it with comfortable weights that were easy for me. Training to failure wasn’t in my dictionary yet and I soon discovered what it meant: “push it to the limits”, John. Actually, to be exactly right, it is just a little BEYOND that limit, really. This can be scary. Within limits, that -I always got used to. Now, this was a new approach.  Lots of hard work, persistence will always pay-off the dividends. There is no magic pill that when taken once a day will produce the desired results. But if we dedicate enough time and discipline into something-it will come our way, is something I've learned during the last 12 weeks

#3 is consistency-I will keep on keeping myself in shape because I can see the comments and the reactions of the people around me are positive and I have all that extra energy and extra looks to go around now

This is important part of my future goals: I want to stay fit and in great shape from now on, with extra energy and knowledge about food and training.  I’d say this is just the “tip of the iceberg” and that “the best is yet to come”.  I’ve developed good habits and I intend to keep them for the future.

And if I can do it with my lower back as it is -anyone can!
