Using Winter to Your Advantage
The cold months are slowly coming upon us. Naturally at this time of year, it is easy to fall out of an exercise routine and gain a few kilograms of fat weight - hey, no one's going to see it anyway because you're going to be all covered up! Well, that's one way of thinking about it.
Rather than focusing on the "now", look at where you'll be six months down the track. As it begins to warm up again, do you really want to be carrying those additional kilo's, only to lose them all over again? Do you really want to go through another spring of dieting and over-the-top exercising? Chances are that you'd rather not...so here's an alternative approach to just "letting loose" over winter!
Winter can be advantageous if utilised correctly. Don't just lay off the exercise - continue to lift the weights in order to continue to develop your lean muscle base and maintain fat levels. Maintain a solid cardiovascular base for general health, whilst inhibiting too much unwanted fat gain. Eat well. No, you don't necessarily need to adhere to a 100% strict diet during the "off" season. You can, however, enjoy a variety of healthy foods in conjunction with the foods that you absolutely love. The combination of all of these factors is what we call a healthy lifestyle - something that can be enjoyed and maintained over the long-term.
