THE ARTICLE
One of the best methods of measuring your body fat using calipers, that has been extensively empirically tested, is to utlilise the Jackson & Pollock Seven Site Body Fat Test. It is simply a matter of taking measurements at seven different locations on your body and then inputting them into our body fat calipers calculator.
If you are using our standard body fat calipers, below are the instructions for this specific instrument:
- Push the indicator (the moveable peice of plastic around the measurements) all the way to the 3 inch mark.
- Select your site of measurement, as per the body fat caliper instructions below.
- Place one thumb on the arm with the "1 2 3 4" label in the thumb groove. We will refer to this arm as the "1 2 3 4 arm".
- Place two fingers in the finger grooves on the side with the Amino Z logo.
- Squeeze the calipers until the "4" on the "1 2 3 4 arm" has passed the indicator line.
- Record your mm measurement.
- Repeat this for all the sites as per the body fat caliper instructions below.
- Enter in your results into our body fat caliper calculator to calculate your body fat accurately!
Below are the seven sites and all are to be taken on the right side of the body:
1. Chest - a pinch in between the nipple and the armpit.

2. Midaxillary - This is just underneath the armpit, in horizontal alignment to the nipple.

3. Tricep - This is at the back of the arm, half way between the top of the shoulder and the elbow.
4. Abdominal - This is about 5cm to the right of your navel.

5. Subscapular - This is just below the right scapular on your back.

6. Supraillium - This is just above your right hip bone.

7. Thigh - Half way between the top of your knee and the bottom of your pelvis.
